Interview with Brooke Pardue of @ParksAllianceLou

Hello and welcome to The Lou Review. This is your host Rosa and today I’m with Brooke Pardue, and she’s gonna talk to us about the Parks Alliance of Louisville. I have learned so much, so fast from her. There’s so much more to our public parks in Louisville. It’s not just one thing. So, Brooke, would you please explain to us what is the Parks

Alliance?

Brooke:

We are a nonprofit supporting our public parks. So we are very blessed most of all to have lots of Parkland. There are various entities that you know oversee, manage, and fundraise for them: Louisville Parks and Recreation, the Metro public parks.

We have 120 of them [in Louisville]. We have 13 community centers, and we’re very fortunate to have of those 120 Parks. 17 of them were designed by the famous landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. He designed Central Park in York City. We are so blessed to have those 17 Olmstead parks. There is a nonprofit that supports those Olmsted parks called the Olmsted Parks Conservancy. It’s been around for more than 30 years with the focus of fundraising for, preserving and protecting those 17 Olmstead parks.

At the Parks Alliance we support the other 103 public parks, about 74% of which are in underserved communities.

Rosa:

That’s a lot.
